Band: Sun Sap

Where do you hail from? Half the band live in Sydney and half live on the South Coast, though most of our music is written and recorded down South.
Give us your wicked-cool backstory: A few of us are friends from school who had been playing music together in other bands for a while. A couple of the guys went overseas and when they got back we spent a few weeks on Shaun’s (drummer) farm on the South Coast. During that time we finished writing and recorded our first few tracks, I guess that was the beginning of Sun Sap.
If your sound had to be described as a meal, what would it be? Probably Mexican – tacos or burritos. There’s a good combination of flavours and if you’re not careful with the hot sauce it could leave you burning for days.
Tell us about the video for Hanging Hearts – how did you come up with the idea? Our friend Mon cut the clip together, we just told her to give us her own take on the lyrics in the song. She did a great job.
What inspired your new single Love Is Gone? Mainly personal experience I guess, I think the lyrics in the song give a pretty good indication of what it’s about.
The worst thing that happened during recording was…: I almost stepped on snake on the way home from our studio one night, so that could have been bad!
But the best thing was…: I missed the snake… Nah, the best thing was that nothing bad happened during the recording. We tracked almost the whole song in one day, we tried out different recording techniques that worked well, we recorded a horn section, which we hadn’t done before, and it all just came together very smoothly.
We know all of your songs are your babies, but if you had to pick a favourite, which would it be and why? Probably Love Is Gone – being our newest track it is the most exciting for us at the moment.
What’s your grand plan to take over Australia’s music scene? We’ve got a heap of gigs coming up, we’re doing our first interstate shows so that should be cool, but I think the main goal is to just keep putting out music and hope people dig it.
